Year 4 Chronnell

Welcome to 4C's class page!

We have had a great Autumn term and I am extremely impressed with the children's willingness to learn and their enthusiasm to take part and help with activities both around the school and in the classroom.

In English, we have just finished Cressida Cowell's, 'How to Train Your Dragon'. We all really enjoyed this book and we are continuing to write a narrative with an alternative plot at the start of the Summer term.

We have continued working on place value in Maths. Children have been consolidating their understanding of numbers to 10,000 and we are understanding the value of each digit in a four-digit number. We have looked at rounding and the children have also been working with decimal numbers, using lots of models and images .

Every Friday, the children are having a Modern Foreign Language session during which they are covering many topics including; greetings, colours, body parts, numbers, family, animals and places. These lessons are being delivered in Spanish and the children are encouraged to speak in the language as regularly as possible to build up their confidence in speaking and listening.

Parents, please encourage your child to read each evening and check their reading diaries. As you know, we have a weekly spelling test on Friday so please check that they are learning their words by putting them into sentences of their own or perhaps by doing a mini spelling test with you. Multiplication facts up to 12 x also need to be memorised in order for the children to progress in Maths. There are various times tables games and multiplication squares that will make learning fun and effective - please ask if you need more information. A times-table club will also be held in 4C every Monday lunchtime. For further details of what we will be doing in 4C in the coming term, please see the attached topic web.

Thank you for continuing to bring your child to school in the correct uniform and on time, every day. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Miss. Chronnell and Miss. Graff.

Dragon Sighting at St.Thomas of Canterbury!

In English, we have been learning how to write a witness account using fronted adverbials. Incredibly, several children claimed to have been witness to a dragon sighting here at STOC - a story that even made the local news!
