Year 1 Tattersall

Welcome to Year 1T

DT- Fruit Salads

We are a healthy bunch in Year 1! Along with making smoothies with Jason and Lisa, we decided to investigate more into trying unusual fruits such as Papayas, Pomegranates, Passion Fruit and even Dragon Fruit! We enjoyed some of these so much, that we decided to create our own delicious Fruit Salads. Have a look at our wonderful creations.

Super Smoothies

This half term, we were very lucky to have Jason and Lisa come and visit us in class. They taught us more about healthy eating and the benefits of eating 5 fruits and vegetables a day. They brought in lots of different fruits for us to try. Then in teams, we designed and made some scrumptious smoothies. Yum yum!

This half term in Science, we have been looking at our senses, and investigating how we use each sense. We took part in some very interesting smell and taste tests too!

Year 1T Class Assembly

This is "Year 1T Class Assembly" by St Thomas of Canterbury on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

Thank you to all the parents/carers that supported to children during their assembly. I think you will agree that they did a great job!

Stay and Play

Jodrell Bank

This half term we are looking at the topic of Space. To launch the topic we went to visit Jodrell Bank Observatory in Macclesfield.

The team at the centre were really keen to teach us lots of things about Space. In the morning we learnt about the different planets in our Solar System and what it would be like to live there. Then in the afternoon, we looked into what life was like for the astronaut Tim Peake, when he lived on the International Space Station.

We even had an opportunity to explore the interactive resources, giving us a further understanding of our new space topic.

Fantastic Fire Making

We have been very busy this week. We have been learning outside with Paul. He taught us about fire, what we need to make fire, and how to stay safe around fires. Afterwards we had an opportunity to toast some delicious marshmallows on the fire. Yum yum!

Come and take a look at our pictures.

Welcome to the Year 1T class page. We have had a fantastic start to the new year and all the children have been settling in well to KS1. We hope that you enjoy finding out about all the different things we will be up to this year.

In English, we have started the Year by looking at books from the author Julia Donaldson. We have found this very enjoyable and created some fantastic pieces of writing. In our writing, our main aims are to use our Phonics to sound out unknown words and use our sentence toolkit to check that we are writing in full sentences (capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and sentences that make sense).

First we looked at the novel 'Zog', this got us thinking about starting a new year at school, and what we would like to do when we are older (just like Zog did!)

Next, we looked at the novel 'What the Ladybird Heard'. We used our imaginations to help the police catch the robbers by creating Wanted posters and recounting the main events of the story. After all, we wouldn't want them to escape with the fine prize cow!

In Maths, we are focusing on number and the place value of 2 digit numbers. We have been working in 'Barnaby's Sweet Shop' to represent two digit numbers using packets and loose sweets. This has helped give us a concrete understanding of 2 digit numbers using real life objects. We are now using lots of maths resources to represent 2 digit numbers in different ways. At home, encourage your child to think carefully about how to record numbers correctly, without reversals.

In Science, we have been looking at animals in our area. We wanted to make observations of birds that visit our school grounds. As we are entering Autumn, we decided to make our fat balls for the birds, that way we could spot different birds and also feed the birds up in preparation for the colder months. Have a look at the pictures of us making these tasty treats!
