All the children worked hard on their Easter bonnets and looked fantastic in our Easter bonnet parade. A big thank you to all the parents who came to watch.

How can I help my child? - Spring 2

Spring 1 Term

Spring 1 has been a busy and productive term for the children in Reception GM. They have been learning about the changes that happen in the winter season, initially through sharing information texts and fictional stories and then by exploring the themes of winter through their senses. Take a look at some of the examples of our ‘Winter art’, and share the photographs of our ‘ice sculptures’ and 'wind play'.

We then extended our ‘Winter’, theme to include a study of ‘Antarctica’. The children have been learning about how only a small number of animals have the ability to live in the frozen habitat. They have explored through role play what humans need to do to survive in such an extreme environment.

Chinese New Year has also been celebrated in Spring 1 term and the children have enjoyed preparing and eating different Chinese foods. They have acted out the traditional Chinese story ‘The Great Race’, made lucky red envelopes, dragon puppets, and many other art and craft activities connected to the topic.

Spring 1 term has found the children in Reception M working hard on their phonics, letter formation and fine motor skills in preparation for recording and writing activities in the coming terms. The children have been taught how to form lower case letters in letter families and also practised forming capital letters. Extra support for children who need to develop their letter formation skills will continue throughout Reception year.

Christmas Term

The Reception cohort have been very busy recently preparing for their Christmas Nativity which they presented to an enthusiastic audience. All the teachers and the children's families were very proud of their performance! Watch some our favourite parts from 'Hey Ewe'.

Reception have been getting into the party mood this week. On Wednesday we dressed up in our party clothes, showed off our best dance moves and played party games. The following day we all piled on a coach and went to watch the traditional pantomime 'Alladin'. It was wonderful to see the children taking part in a live show! We sang along to some favourite songs, booed the baddies and cheered for the hero!

All the Reception staff would like to wish a Happy Christmas to the children and families and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year. We are attaching a parent help sheet for you to help prepare your child for the new topic beginning in January.

Autumn 2

This half term we have been learning about Autumn festivals and how the seasons change through the year.  We took our learning outdoors and explored Kersal Dale, looking for signs of Autumn.

In class we have created a woodlands role play area where we can sort the leaves we collected.

We really like joining in with this song about the seasons of the year.

Using our voices and bodies helps us to learn. We want to show you a fun way of practising counting. Come and join in with us!
