Year 5 Bagnara

Year 5B

Welcome to our class page which will be updated throughout the school year.

What an  impressive start back the children have made!

Take a look!

LITERACY

Our Literacy lessons have been based on our class novel 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. The children have really enjoyed taking on the role of Jim as they  walked down 'Conscience Alley' and 'Hot Seated' his character. They have written a descriptive setting, a diary entry, a letter and  a recount focusing on show sentences. Here are some examples:

'Jim slumped down onto the floor, head in hands, thinking about his dead mother' (Karl),

'Jim curled himself up into a ball and wrapped his arms around himself' (Tilly).

'Jim stared straight ahead, eyes open wide' (Brandon).

The children are enjoying the novel so much that we have decided to continue using the text for our next genres: writing a biography and an argument.

NUMERACY

In Numeracy, we have been developing our understanding of number by using deines apparatus and by bundling straws into groups of 10, 100, 1000 and 10,000.
We have been working on the following objectives from the new math's curriculum this half-term:

SCIENCE

In Science, we have been learning about the Earth in Space. Our trip to Jodrell Bank was out of this world!
ART

In Art, we have been learning how to create still life paintings. We linked the subject of our still life work with our RE lessons;God's creation.

Overview of the Year 5 Curriculum

Friendship Week

During Friendship Week, we learnt about Cyber Bullying. Together, we wrote this poem:

Cyber Bullying makes you feel devastated,

Tell an adult and it will be investigated.

Cyber Bullying can be horrendous,

Report it, and in the end you will feel tremendous.

Cyber Bullying makes the victim feel depressed,

Tell the teacher and they will do the rest.

Cyber Bullying can crush the soul,

Get some help and you will feel whole.

When you feel abandoned, lonely and sad,

Please get some help,

And you won't feel so bad.

Bullying does exist however,

We can all stand and fight it together.

Well Done 5B!

Our Class Assembly

A big thank you to our mums and dads for coming to watch our class assembly. The theme of vocations was explored with the help of Father David, who reminded us that we all have a vocation in life. After our assembly, Father David led a 'Stay and Pray' for vocations session in our classroom.
