Reception Nativity

Please enjoy watching our Reception Nativity performance. We are so proud of all the children's hard work and it was so lovely to watch them having fun and singing their hearts out. Thank you to everyone who was able to make it!

Christmas Dinner Day!

Making melted snowman biscuits and build a snowman challenge

During our school's moment of silence, the children in Reception were very respectful. Every child in Reception took care to make their very own poppy to bring out onto the playground with them as they remembered the soldiers who gave their life during the war, as well as the families who were affected.

Bonfire night is lots of fun with colourful fireworks and huge burning fires. We spent lots of time discussing how to keep safe around fires, sparklers and fireworks. To celebrate our fantastic listening, we made some delicious chocolate sparklers with sprinkles!

We have enjoyed learning all about Diwali, also known as 'the festival of light'. To celebrate, we made mehndi patterns and diwa lamps.

This year the theme for Black History month is 'reclaiming narratives'. In Reception, we have been learning all about John Blanke, a trumpeter for King Henry VII & King Henry VIII who campaigned for more money and whose image is the earliest known image of a Black person living in Britain whose name is known.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming a parent into Reception who led a talk all about Zimbabwe. A huge thank you to the staff and parents who brought in some delicious African cuisine for us to try!

Talking to your child about school

When we ask children, ‘How was your day?’ it can sometimes feel to them like a huge question – if they did many different things and felt different ways at different points in the day, it might seem overwhelming to decide which answer to give. They might not yet understand that we mean ‘in general’ how was their day. A good tip is to be more specific, for example:

Can you remember one thing that made you feel happy at school today?

Did anything make you sad?

Which activity made you smile?

Another great tip is to share and model your own response to questions first. For example,

I had a chicken sandwich and then a banana for my lunch today. What did you have for lunch?

I felt so happy today when my friend at work helped me with an important job. Did anything make you happy in school today?

One or two questions may be a limit for most children - a full day in school can be quite exhausting after all!

Our first class song - Fabby Dabby Dee!

We have been learning the words and sign language actions to this song to celebrate how we all like different things!
