Dear parents and carers,
I write to you today to pass on some wonderful news the school has received over the Christmas holiday.
In recognition of my role as Head teacher here at St Thomas of Canterbury RC Primary, and also my work with other schools as both an Ofsted Inspector and National Leader of Education over the last 10 years my name has been kindly included in The Queen’s New Years honours list. I am to receive an OBE for “services to primary education” and will travel down to London at some point in 2018 to receive this most special award.
I trust you share with me a great sense of pride and joy that our school’s remarkable achievements over many years have been recognised in this very public and amazing way.
Whilst I will formally receive the OBE, it is important to remember that every member of our school community share in this magnificent honour; fantastically talented teachers and support staff (past and present), our hard working and supportive school governors, parents and carers who work in partnership with the school and most of all our children who “reach for the stars” each day at school. I would particularly like to take this opportunity to thank our Chair of Governors and parish priest Father David McFarlane for his wise advice and support.
When the time comes to receive the award, ideally I would like to be able to take some children and staff so they are able to fully share in this special day. We will have to wait and see if this is possible.
Nobody achieves anything alone, least of all in a primary school setting. Only through talented teams of staff working in partnership with parents, governors and the wider community can we help our children achieve their full, God given potential.
Thank you once again for your continued support.
Mr Deane OBE
National Leader of Education
